Caetano Veloso is the third self-titled album by Caetano Veloso. It was recorded in England, when the artist was in an exile imposed by the Brazilian government of the time for being subversive. It is mostly sung in English and portrays a sad tone throughout, reflecting his feelings about homesickness and the absence of his family and friends. It was released first in Europe, and then in Brazil, in 1971. All tracks are written by Caetano Veloso except where noted. Johnny Clamp Photography. Caetano Veloso continues his free-thinking explorations of tropicalismo on this ambitiously arranged, elaborately packaged suite of songs devoted to whatever happens to cross his mind. Veloso says that he was listening a lot to the collaborations of Miles Davis and Gil Evans around this time, and Jaques Morelenbaum's charts often reflect their darkly urbane ethos. Livro captures Caetano Veloso at his sensitive best: His voice is the primary instrument here, as delicate and precise as a fingertip tracing a pattern on your skin. The heat lies, paradoxically, in his restraint: Brazils Carnival rhythms constantly shift and clap underneath songs like Os Passistas and Onde o Rio e Mais Baiano, but they never explode. Meanwhile, the celestial Um Tom feels like a mission statement, of sorts, for Velosos restlessly experimental career. Livro Caetano Veloso. Caetano Veloso's style has been tagged Afro-Brazilian by genre freaks such as the All-Music Guide. That is to say that African rhythms fuse with sorrowful, minor-key Portugese fado and traditional, breezy Brazilian Bossa Nova. Don't worry, though, there are several reference points for indie-rock Americans. UMG от лица компании Universal Music International Ltda.
