The Magic Roundabout was an English-language children's television programme that ran from 1965 to 1977. It used the footage of the French stop motion animation show Le Manège enchanté, but with completely different scripts and characters. The French series, created by Serge Danot with the help of Ivor Wood and Wood's French wife, Josiane, was broadcast from 1964 to 1974 on ORTF Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française. The BBC originally rejected translating the series because it was charming. Narrated by Eric Thompson, this is a reconstruction of a Magic Roundabout episode, using the video footage from the French volume 1 VHS and the English audio from the 1971 UK album. I also found Dougal's Adventure from the same French VHS. As for Dougal's Experiment no, Norman Thompson was born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, the son of George Henry and Anne Thompson, and grew up Rudgwick, Sussex, attending Collyer's School, Horsham. He trained to be an actor at the Old Vic acting school in London and joined the Old Vic theatre company in 1952. He worked mostly for the BBC, and was a presenter of the children's television programme Play School in the 1960s. He was best known as the narrator of The Magic Roundabout, for which he wrote the English-language scripts. Title: The Magic Roundabout 1990 . This is the sort of classic stuff the Magic Roundabout is famous for. A recent version is being shown on Cartoon Network in the UK. I'm not sure if Jimmy Hibbert is re-voicing the original Eric Thompson episodes or if these are, in fact, new ones. They seem to mix and match Nigel Planer and Jimmy Hibbert versions. All I can say is thank you Cartoon Network because when I come home from the pub on a Saturday night they show back-to-back episodes for hours and being completely sloshed is the best time to view the show. 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. Florence and her animal friends live in the Enchanted Village, which is under the care of Zebedee, a kindly wizard. However, a dark cloud approaches this sunny world. After being encased in ice for eons, Zeebad, Zebedee's evil double, reappears and threatens to start another ice age. The only way to stop Zeebad is for Florence and friends to find three magic diamonds before he does. Based on the cult TV series The Magic Roundabout. But this is 2005, so this updating cannot possibly allow nothing to happen. Quite the reverse. It's more of a magical mystery tour, with all the same characters plus a very Ice Age-style moose. Zebedee is transformed into a wizard on a spring, played by Ian McKellen, which reminded me of one of his other roles, no doubt intentionally. Adam & Eve Had the Blues - Suzy Thompson, Eric Thompson.
