Album

EP2 is the second EP in a series of EPs released by American alternative rock band Pixies, released on January 3, 2014. Black Francis described his inspiration for the song Blue Eyed Hexe: The song took on different forms, different music and different sets of lyrics. It went through a lot of changes before it settled where it is now. It's a tale from the northwest of the country and it's a witch-woman kind of a song. That's what a hexe is. And she's a blue-eyed hexe. Pixies EP2 - Full album 2014. hellspawn3000. The resurrected Pixies' EP-2 dates from the same recording sessions as last year's EP-1. The four new songs here are less blank than the four on the first, but the gulf between the feel this music has on the mind and the name on the cover remains jarring. EP-2. by Jayson Greene. EP 2 continues the Pixies comeback, which began with the poorly received EP 1 and was confirmed by the studio album Indie Cindy, released later in 2014. EP 2 continues the work of EP1, presenting a more polished guitar-based sound than the band had used before. Singer Black Francis actually claimed Greens and Blues was intended to be a better Gigantic, but at least one outlet disagreed vehemently. EP2 Q&A. Producers Gil Norton. Writers Black Francis. More Pixies albums. Like EP1, these songs bridge Trompe le Monde's muscular approach and the fuller, more flowing sound of Frank BlackBlack Francis solo releases like Teenager of the Year and Bluefinger. Genre: Alternative Rock. The only interesting track on the whole album is Magdelena. The rest is bland, modern and predictable. Even worse than EP-1. Or consider a donation Related Media. As with EP 1, released last fall, this four-song set feels like a faint echo of the band's later albums, 1990's Bossanova and 1991's Trompe le Monde, lacking those records' frizzy menace, zany propulsion and memorable tunes. Blue Eyed Hexe wanly recapitulates that voodoo that they used to do so well, with guitarist Joey Santiago bringing sidelong scorch, and on Greens and Blues Black Francis sorta summons the screaming menace of old. Like the EP itself, he's unsure why he's here or where he's going. Popular on Rolling Stone. In This Article: Pixies. Want more Rolling Stone Sign up for our newsletter. Pixies - EP2 review: Christmas is a time for elves, January is a time for Pixies. EP2 arrived with a thud this morning, granting it the gravitas of being 2014s first notable release and with it, pretty much a continuation of the groundwork laid by EP1. This new collection of songs combines a brooding menace with broader themes and more accessible traits that might have escaped a few people first time around. Alas, it is not without its negative points. EP2s opening brace of tracks make up the best of the EP. Although opener Blue Eyed Hexe starts with some uninspired ACDC-esque plodding, it soon grows into a screaming, cursing monster.
